Both the Whitlam government and the incoming government of Malcolm Fraser pursued exactly the same policy of supporting the invasion and covering up the Balibo murders. The Fraser government refused to even allow the charred remains of the men to be brought back to Australia for forensic testing.
Both these men have blood on their hands. Not surprising then that Fraser see's no problem with Hamas

David,

Interesting that even as far back as May 2008 you drew the conclusion that Fraser was a Carter copy-cat. If I had known, I would have quoted you in my artilce.

Francis and David,

I also think it is rather odd that today's letters page in The Age did not include any rebuttals of Fraser, but included a letter in support of Fraser.

I find it hard to believe that The Age never received any rebuttals. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Fraser is desperately trying to stay relevant. This is what I wrote about his last mindless musings on the Middle East.

Very surprised (or maybe not) at the lack of letters today attacking his nonsense. Maybe they will publish a counterpoint in the Opinion pages in coming days.

Nicely done Anthony. Same old, same old from Fraser. Why does he feel the need to repeatedly trot out his tired 'arguments' and top them with a conspiracy theory about Australian Governments' 'being afraid' of the mythical 'Jewish lobby' (thank you very much Messrs Walt & Mearsheimer)? Is he suggesting his own Government was 'afraid'? Of what, exactly?

What is his particular interest in the Middle East in any event?? With his lack of knowledge on the topic, he's been caught with his trousers down again.

No, The Age is certainly not The Dearborn Independent, but it likes to make a habit of giving voice to such third grade tripe (with a follow up letter in today's Age supporting Fraser). Such articles serve to confirm existing prejudices and, sadly, may influence some people who believe that Fraser has authoritative opinions on foreign affairs.

Ariel, you raise some good points about Fraser's appalling record. I was going to include something like:

Fraser is not known as one of the better Liberal prime ministers Australia has had; and should a miracle happen in that Turnbull defeats Kevin747 at the next federal election, then Fraser will not even go down in history as one of the better Liberal prime ministers named Malcolm.

Word constraints, and the desire to stay rigidly on topic meant that I omitted delving into Fraser's very interesting history.

Ignore Fraser. This is the guy who supported Robert Mugabe's takeover of Zimbabwe and Indonesia's brutal annexation of East Timor believing it would all lead to stability and prosperity for all.
Fraser did nothing for Aborigines. Now he's an outspoken critic of the previous government's policies.
Furthermore, there was not a cigarette paper's difference between him and Gough Whitlam, another rabid anti-Israel socialist. That's why, when he had the opportunity to repair Whitlam's destruction of the country - with two terms in government and a majority in both houses - he did NOTHING.
Fraser was by far our worst ever Prime Minister for failing to actually achieve anything in office, like Jimmy Carter, the former KKK member.
Full of hot air, both of them.
