Employee Requests Leave for Sukkot and This is What Happened

October 5, 2012 – 1:14 pm4 Comments

Most of us, at some time or another, have been in this position, and some of us regularly. This year has been particularly bad, seemingly with a maximum number of holidays falling on weekdays.

In this case, our protagonist has some explaining to do (first see video above) in order to secure leave for Succas, and then even some explaining afterwards that he wasn’t expecting (see video below).

Very funny but rather close to home also.

I loved the bit where the gentile boss is saying how he was ushered to the nonkosher part of the sukkah!

    Motek,

    Tell me about it!

I wasn’t sure how my boss was going to react when I sent him an email with a list of all the festivals this new year period, and showing how they all landed on weekdays this year.

Thankfully, he was very understanding, and not fussed in the slightest. He was also appreciative that I gave plenty of notice (as opposed to our protagonist here, who likes to give just one week’s notice :-)

I once had a job where the deal they offered me was all Jewish holidays plus five days. One day in Iyyar my boss comes into my office and says “I guess I won’t see you tomorrow, have a good holiday”. I gave him a blank look and he said “My calendar says tomorrow’s a Jewish holiday”. It was either Pesach Sheni or Lag Ba’omer, I forget which, and I could totally have taken it off, but he was happy when I told him it was a working holiday.
